Shifts.

I have just woken up after 4 hours sleep from starting at 6.45am Friday morning on my clinical placement, finishing at 3.30pm, going home and sleeping for 4 hours or so and then getting up to go to work work to do a graveyard shift at 11pm finishing at 7am this morning! First time I have done a two shifts in a (row) like that.. not really a row, but so close with a night shift.  I am now able to reply to my emails waiting and get some form of study done today before going into tomorrow which I am planning on doing a whole lot of study and getting  bit of my assignment of writing 2000 words on Advocacy out of the way.

By the way- I got 100% in my first bioscience quiz, 90% in the second, and I have also just found out I got 9.5/10 (A grade) in my first psychology assignment in APA formatting involving summarizing 5 articles!

BioScience Lab #5

Todays Lab for my Bioscience paper was all to do with blood typing and using the centrifuge machine to work out the haematocrit levels of our blood.  We pricked our fingers and then proceeded to collect our blood into two different capillary tubes in which one was for blood typing and the other for the centrifuge machine.

For the blood typing we were required to use slides to put a drop of water, blood and then the anti A,B, and D (Rhesus value) solution to figure out what it was- as I already knew what mine is I was able to see if I could produce the same result- and with time... I did! It looks pretty cool, and this lab was insanely awesome!

And a bonus photo of me and my Student Nursing uniform (minus the badge- at the time it was taken we didn't have them yet)

MAMMA MIA!

Last night I went to the stage show at The Civic Theatre in Auckland city to see MAMMA MIA!

The first time I have ever been to a proper theatre show, it was just absolutely amazing, and so well done! Very very awesome night! We were seated up above the stage at the top! Brilliantly done, and made even better by the fact that I actually knew one of the dancers/singers as he was in my class last year at school!

Clinical Orientation

I know, I said I would write this afterwards, but I have been busy writing assignments and sorting out this week- I have two proper days of clinical coming up as of tomorrow :)

It was a very different experience than where I work, same level of care given but in a different way, with it being just. Different. I am use to working with pretty much all staff over the hospital where I work and being able to interact with the other wings and stuff.  I think I will enjoy being in this placement though because it is different, I wont be a strict caregiver, but I will be learning both skills within caregiving and within Nursing.  Learning different skills within a different setting.

Clinical Placements coming up...

I have my first clinical placement tomorrow!!! I will be at Lady Allum in Milford as working alongside a caregiver- that is my understanding anyhow.  I have to be there at 8am for orientation until 3pm, but will be picking up my friend and classmate on the way and have to be at her house by about 7.10am even though its a 15min journey to Milford as the traffic starts getting horrendous at about 7am in the morning with everyone going to work and uni.  Will let you know how the day goes :)
